Auburn co-DC Tim Banks praises sophomore safety: ‘He’s playing with some violence’

Auburn co-DC Tim Banks spoke with media on Tuesday following Auburn’s fall camp practice. When asked who on Auburn’s defensive has been a fall camp standout thus far, Banks immediately mentioned sophomore safety Eric Winters.
The former 4-star safety played a reserve role last season, totaling 33 tackles with 1 sack (against Texas A&M) and 1 pass deflection (against Oklahoma). Banks mentioned his size and told Auburn reporters that he’s “playing with some violence.”
“He’s going to be one of the bigger safeties in the country, and he’s playing that way,” Banks said, via On3’s Bryan Matthews. “He’s playing with some violence.”

Auburn’s secondary is kind of stacked heading into the new season. Winters is obviously turning some heads, but Champ Anthony is healthy again and “hitting on all cylinders” according to Banks on Tuesday. AnQuon Fegans, Kaleb Harris and Sylvester Smith-Reed are sure to make some noise as well.
With that in mind, DJ Durkin will have some decisions to make before Auburn faces Baylor in Dallas to kick off their 2026 season.
