Starting defensive back Johnathan “Rudy” Ford has been a leader within Auburn’s defense throughout his career.

Initially recruited as a running back, Ford has starred for Gus Malzahn’s team — leading the squad in tackles two times. He finished this year third in tackles (59) and also accrued 5.5 tackles-for-loss, and seven pass breakups.

In what would’ve been his final collegiate game tonight in the Sugar Bowl versus Oklahoma, it was announced that Ford will in fact not participate:

The loss of Ford could pose some major problems in this contest. OU possesses arguably the best quarterback-receiver duo in the country in Baker Mayfield and Dede Westbrook.

In addition to Ford, senior WR Marcus Davis will also not play:

On the season, Davis has accrued 17 catches for 160 yards.
