Auburn fans were clearly not happy about a late hit on running back Kerryon Johnson in the first half of Saturday’s SEC Championship Game.
Johnson was hit late by a Georgia defender on a questionable play going out of bounds, and many Auburn fans were irate.
The Auburn running back has been battling an injury leading up to Saturday’s game. He hurt his shoulder last Saturday during the Iron Bowl against Alabama, but was deemed ready to play against the ‘Dawgs despite possibly not being 100 percent.
As a result, Tigers fans questioned whether the Bulldogs might have had a “bounty” out on Johnson.
Georgia was leading Auburn 10-7 at halftime.
There was a vast amount of reactions on Twitter from Auburn fans who were not happy about the hit:
So Kirby Smart put a bounty on Kerryon Johnson. smh

Wow, Georgia! Y’all really play dirty! Jumping on Kerryon’s shoulder when he is down right after a late hit on Stidham!! Unreal!!

Late hit from Georgia on Kerryon smh what a trashy play. But leading after 1Q is ok with me

Georgia has a code red on Kerryon Johnson and last late hit might have knocked him out. #dirty

@CoachHand You know Smart told them to hit Kerryon on that shoulder on purpose. That should be illegal and that time was a late hit-they should have called it!

Dear Georgia fans, please tell me again about how dirty Auburn players are. Please. How about that late hit on Kerryon that just wasn’t called?

Georgia is playing dirty. Hit Kerryon on the shoulder a full 2 seconds after he was down.

In addition to the sideline hit on Johnson, there may be some additional evidence that Georgia was playing a little extra nasty on Saturday:
