Auburn fans panic on social media during weak first-half showing vs. Cal

Auburn fans aren’t exactly optimistic following the way the team has opened the first half against Cal.

The Tigers were favored over the Golden Bears heading into this one, especially considering the upside and bright spots that quarterback Payton Thorne has shown. But this looks to be anyone’s game for the time being as the Tigers trail at home, 14-7, at halftime.

Auburn attempted to lessen the deficit with a 61-yard field goal attempt to end the second quarter, but it was no good.

Several have taken to social media with their disdain for the way things have gone so far in what was originally deemed to be one of the Tigers’ easier games on the schedule:

This isn’t the only game that has gone not at all as expected, with one of the biggest storylines of Saturday presenting itself in Penn State’s narrow 34-27 win over the Bowling Green Falcons, who nearly crashed the Nittany Lions’ home-opener before the comeback saved an upset from happening.

Whether or not Auburn will be as lucky remains to be seen for the next two quarters of the game. The second half of the game between the Tigers and Golden Bears can be seen on ESPN2.
