Auburn flipping former elite defensive lineman recruit to the offensive line
After missing all of his freshman season, former four-star defensive lineman prospect Prince Tega Wanogho is making the move to offensive tackle for the Auburn. Tigers head coach Gus Malzahn announced the news Monday to reporters at SEC Media Days.
“He’s going to move to offensive tackle,” Malzahn said according to Michael Niziolek of the Ledger-Enquirer. “Prince is a guy that we feel very good about. He’s doing a great job at defensive line, but we feel like we had proper depth going into this year and we are going to try to develop him into an offensive tackle.”
Upon finishing his high school career, Wanogho fractured both his tibia and fibula in a basketball game. A late addition to Auburn’s 2015 recruiting class, Wanogho reclassified as a senior just prior to 2015’s National Signing Day. The Nigerian native has only played one season of organized football, yet still garnered a four-star ranking out of high school.
Malzahn indicated to Saturday Down South several linemen could be shifting positions, “They’ve all got experience, just moving them around a bit.”
Wanogho’s move to the offensive line gives the Tigers 17 players on that line and leaves the defensive line with 15 players currently listed on the roster.
