Nothing is guaranteed in the SEC, even if you’re the No. 9 overall prospect for the 2016 national signing class. Auburn freshman Derrick Brown has learned that through his first two months on campus as he competes for playing time in his first season.

Brown has earned praise from his teammates, including senior defensive tackle Montravius Adams, who spoke during SEC Media Days on Monday. However, Adams noted that the freshman still has room for improvement.

“Right now I don’t do too much with him,” Adams said, “but from the little bit that I have seen, he has to get better on a couple things. But that’s for everybody. But at the end of the day I feel like he’ll be a great defensive lineman.”

Brown is 6-foot-5, 330 pounds, which makes him the heaviest and second-tallest defensive player on Auburn’s roster. But despite having size and five-star potential, he enters one of the deepest Auburn defensive lines in recent memory.
Brown will have to continue to earn praise from his teammates and coaches in fall camp to earn playing time as a true freshman.
