The Auburn family lost one of its own Sunday as two-way star Tommy Lorino passed away.

Lorino was the No. 1 running back on Auburn’s 1957 undefeated national championship team, as Lorino rushed for 445 yards his junior season. As a sophomore, Lorino rushed for 692 yards on only 82 carries, good for an 8.4 yard-per-carry average! Lorino also played on the 1958 undefeated team.

Auburn’s combined record during his playing career was 26-3-1.

According to Auburn’s official team website, Lorino’s career started with a crucial fumble against Tennessee.

“After that Tennessee game, Coach Jordan never lost confidence in him, his teammates never lost confidence in him, he never lost confidence in himself, and he turned out to be one of the best Auburn ever had,” former Auburn athletics director David Housel said. “He was probably a better defensive player than offensive player.”

Lorino was also inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame in 1999.
