The sixth-ranked Auburn Tigers played with a depleted defense Saturday against the Jacksonville State Gamecocks.
Defensive end Carl Lawson (hip flexor) and defensive back Tray Matthews (unknown ailment) were both injured against Louisville last week and were ruled out before the game, according to AL.com.
During the first quarter, defensive back Josh Hosley left the game with a knee injury and did not return. He was later seen on the sidelines in street clothes and a jersey.
With less than two minutes remaining in the first half, Auburn lost another defensive back, Blake Countess, due to a targeting ejection.
LB Cassanova McKinzy also limped to the sidelines multiple times accompanied by training staff. McKinzy returned to make a sack on the final third down play in overtime.
The offense also suffered a scare when senior WR Duke Williams went down in the third quarter. However, Duke Williams returned to the field in the fourth.
