The Auburn offensive line was dealt another blow on Tuesday when it was learned that third-year sophomore and backup Jordan Diamond had surgery and will miss the remainder of the 2014 season.
Head coach Gus Malzahn did not specify the nature of the injury that prompted Diamond’s surgery.
“He will be out for this year and that’s unfortunate,” Malzahn said during his weekly news conference on Tuesday. “He’s a good player. He’s a great person and that’s another loss up front.”
It’s not the first injury Diamond has had to deal with during his career at Auburn. During his freshman year in 2012, he suffered a torn labrum and was redshirted. Prior to spring practice earlier this year, he had knee surgery to repair an injury suffered at the end of the 2013 season.
Diamond had a good fall camp, but offensive line coach J.B. Grimes said that Diamond may be done with his injury history.
“He’s got a ways to go. I think he’s still hurting, OK? He’s such a tough kid, you can’t hardly tell it,” Grimes said in an interview with the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer. “He hasn’t fully recovered yet.”
Diamond was listed on the Tigers’ two-deep, backing up Avery Young at right guard.
