Auburn lost the Iron Bowl on Saturday and with it a chance to become bowl-eligible.

Now the Tigers are reportedly set to lose 2 quarterbacks via the transfer portal, according to On3sports. Freshman Hank Brown and sophomore Holden Geriner will be entering the portal, making Auburn’s quarterback situation for 2025 a lot murkier with the departure of senior Payton Thorne.

The transfers of Brown and Geriner were reported within minutes of each other. Now Hugh Freeze’s quarterback dynamic for next fall becomes really interesting, among many other ways one can describe it.

Suddenly, Auburn’s top 3 quarterbacks on its current roster will not be coming back to The Plains next season.

And suddenly, dual-threat freshman Walker White is the only scholarship quarterback who is currently projected to be on the team in 2025.

White did get some game action just a few weeks ago in a blowout win over Louisiana-Monroe. In his Auburn debut, White went 2-for-5 passing for 18 yards and showed off his ability as a runner, too, with 4 carries for 18 yards.

White replaced Thorne with the game well in hand, giving Tigers fans only a brief taste of what he can do. Now suddenly, barring a quarterback coming to Auburn via the transfer portal in the offseason or via recruiting, Auburn fans will get a lot more than a taste of White in 2025 — they’ll get him as their starting quarterback.
