Big 12 forcing Texas defender to apologize for saying ‘OU sucks’ following win over Iowa State

The Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners are fierce rivals, and that means the teams are often taking jabs at one another, even when they aren’t facing each other.
After Texas’s win over Iowa State on Saturday, Longhorns DE Breckyn Hager was informed that Kansas scored 40 points on Oklahoma’s defense. As Longhorn players often do, Hager responded to that news by saying that Oklahoma sucks.
Now, it appears the Big 12 is going to make him apologize to Oklahoma for his comments, per a release from the conference on Monday:
“Breckyn Hager violated the Conference rule that prohibits coaches, student-athletes, athletic department staff and university personnel from making negative comments about other member institutions for his remarks about the University of Oklahoma,” said commissioner Bob Bowlsby. “This is Mr. Hager’s second violation of the Conference sportsmanship rules and therefore, he is receiving a public reprimand and will be expected to issue a public apology for his inappropriate comments.”
If that sounds a little ridiculous, that’s because it is. This is a weird thing for the Big 12 to do.
We can’t wait to see Hager’s apology, as it’s likely to be one of the least-sincere things ever said.
