Big Ten is getting crushed on social media for decision against Nebraska
By Rolando Rosa
Published:
With Nebraska’s game this week against Wisconsin canceled, the Cornhuskers wanted to fill the void. Apparently, the B1G has ruled against it.
Wisconsin suffered a COVID-19 outbreak that saw 12 members of the football program test positive: six student-athletes and six staff members, including head coach Paul Chryst.
In response, Nebraska arranged a TBD replacement game against FCS opponent Chattanooga. Yet, according to ESPN reporter Adam Rittenberg, the conference isn’t allowing it, even though Chattanooga has been tested and is virus-free.
The #B1G has denied #Nebraska’s attempt to replace its canceled game against #Wisconsin with FCS Chattanooga, sources tell @ClowESPN and me. Chattanooga had already tested staff and players Wednesday and came back negative. But the game will not happen.

Nebraska’s next game will be at Northwestern on Nov. 7.
The B1G postponed the 2020 football season and eventually decided on a conference-only schedule because of COVID-19. That was widely criticized on social media and this latest B1G verdict is drawing similar ire.
Here’s a sampling of social media reaction to the ruling:
Chattanooga AD Mark Wharton just told me the Big Ten has denied a request for the Mocs to play Nebraska on Saturday. Neb had guaranteed $200K-$250K. Entire UTC team had tested negative using PCR tests Wednesday night. (more)

So Wisconsin gets to cancel a game, even though they didn’t meet the threshold, and Nebraska can’t find a new opponent? What a joke. If two of the six players weren’t qb’s they would be playing.

I hate this conference. In a month when Ohio State needs a fill in game to keep them eligible for the playoff, watch what happens then.

The lengths to which the #B1G will continue to go in order for many of its leaders to prove themselves right is amazing. The utlization of science to overcome the issues COVID creates seems to be less important than being able to create an “I told you so” environment.

The Big Ten leadership is pissed were playing and they will be spiteful all season long.

There is absolutely no good reason to not allow this. The entire team tested negative. Absolute BS by the Big10 once again.#ScrewTheBig10

Athletes want to compete. The athletic conference they’re in continues to make this very difficult. Not all Nebraska fans are bad people, but today, all of our patience with this conference is wearing thin.
