The Golden State Warriors’ 110-77 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers last Sunday night is tied for the fifth-biggest blowout in NBA history, according to interbasket.net.
In fact, all three games so far in the NBA Finals haven’t even been competitive. Because those results occurred in a championship series, it made us think about the biggest blowouts in SEC Championship Game history.
Without further ado, here are the SEC title game’s 10 biggest routs in terms of margin of victory:
2009
Alabama 32, Florida 13: Mark Ingram rushed for 113 yards and 3 touchdowns, and Greg McElroy threw for 239 yards and a TD in a rout that prevented the Gators from repeating as national champs. The victory also served as a springboard for the Crimson Tide on the way to its first national title since 1992.
2005
Georgia 34, LSU 14: D.J. Shockley threw a pair of touchdown passes to Sean Bailey and ran for another score as the Bulldogs won their second SEC Championship Game in four years. Shockley won the game’s MVP award despite completing only 6 of 12 passes for 112 yards.
2003
LSU 34, Georgia 13: Justin Vincent rushed for what was then an SEC Championship Game record 201 yards and 2 touchdowns for the Tigers. Tre Mason broke that record in Auburn’s 59-42 win over Missouri in the 2013 SEC Championship Game.
2000
Florida 28, Auburn 6: Rex Grossman threw four touchdown passes and the Gators forced three key first-half turnovers. Earnest Graham added 169 rushing yards as Florida routed Auburn for the second time in seven weeks.
2002
Georgia 30, Arkansas 3: Musa Smith rushed for 106 yards and 2 TDs as the Bulldogs won their first SEC title since 1982. Georgia scored on its first five possessions to take a 23-0 halftime lead.
1999
Alabama 34, Florida 7: Florida scored on the game’s first possession on a 3-yard pass from Graham to Erron Kinney, but the Crimson Tide responded with 34 unanswered points. Bama intercepted four passes and outscored the Gators 19-0 in the fourth quarter.
2014
Alabama 42, Missouri 13: Blake Sims completed 23 of 27 passes for 262 yards and 2 TDs as Alabama pulled away with a 21-point fourth quarter. T.J. Yeldon and Derrick Henry each had a couple of touchdown runs.
1995
Florida 34, Arkansas 3: Game MVP Danny Wuerffel threw for a TD and ran for another in Florida’s romp. The Gators outgained the Razorbacks 396-299 and committed no turnovers, while forcing Arkansas into four giveaways.
2011
LSU 42, Georgia 10: Tyrann Mathieu turned in an MVP performance, returning a punt 62 yards for a touchdown, setting up another score with a fumble recovery and finally finishing off the Bulldogs with an even more impressive punt return that led to the decisive TD. Kenny Hilliard scored 3 TDs for the Tigers.
2010
Auburn 56, South Carolina 17: Cam Newton passed for a career-high 335 yards and 4 TDs and ran for a pair of TDs in an MVP performance. The Tigers set an SEC Championship Game record for scoring and piled up 589 yards.
