Legendary LSU star Billy Cannon, 80, died Sunday morning, the university announced on social media.

The Philadelphia, Mississippi, native was a halfback and return specialist for the university. While at LSU, Cannon was a two-time unanimous All-American and helped LSU win the 1958 national championship. Cannon was awarded the Heisman Trophy as the nation’s most outstanding player in 1959.

Cannon’s iconic punt return against Ole Miss on Halloween night in 1959 is arguably the most memorable play in LSU sports history. Below is a replay of the return that propelled LSU to win 7-3.
