Bobby Petrino to Texas A&M: Fans and media blast reported hire, criticize Jimbo Fisher

Bobby Petrino heading to Texas A&M as the offensive coordinator and play caller understandably drew an immediate and widespread reaction around college football.

Petrino made the move, according to multiple reports including ESPN’s Chris Low, after being at UNLV with Barry Odom for less than a month. And the move came after coach Jimbo Fisher fired offensive coordinator Darrell Dickey a month ago.

Petrino is a well-respected offensive coach, and he previously worked 2 stints as coach at Louisville (2003-06, 2014-18), and also coached the Atlanta Falcons (2007), Arkansas (2008-11) and Western Kentucky (2013). Petrino is 137-71 overall as a college head coach.

Matt Hayes wrote on Dec. 12 that Petrino is the absolute last person Fisher should hire.
