Booger McFarland can’t understand why Alabama wouldn’t be a lock for the Playoff if it wins the SEC Championship.

The ESPN analyst gave his thoughts on Always College Football on Wednesday, saying that it’s difficult to comprehend why a win in the SEC Championship wouldn’t be enough for the Tide.

“I’ll tell you something that really jumps out to me, is that Alabama, even if they win the SEC Championship game, they’re not a shoo-in,” McFarland said. “They need some help, and I think that’s the one thing that a lot of people can’t fathom. The SEC Champion, Alabama, 12-1, they still need help to get in, based on being a No. 8 right now, it’s a long way to the top 4.”

While Alabama has looked like one of the best teams in the country in recent weeks, it’s early season loss to Texas is weighing heavily. If Texas wins the Big 12 Championship and Alabama wins the SEC Championship, the committee could have a tough decision to make.
