Bourbon Street has received the all-clear to reopen in time for Thursday’s new kickoff for the Sugar Bowl, New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell announced on Thursday.

The popular strip is just a short trip away from the Caesars Superdome where the Sugar Bowl is set to be played and was originally scheduled for primetime on New Year’s Day. However, the tragic attack in the early morning hours on Jan. 1 that claimed multiple lives shut down the strip and forced the game to be postponed to Thursday.

Following an investigation, Cantrell confirmed there is “confidence” to reopen Bourbon Street in time for the Sugar Bowl and proclaimed the city is ready for Thursday’s event and future events down the road.

“The confidence is there to reopen Bourbon Street prior to game time today. The first order will be to allow for vendors to come in and service the businesses. That’s important in order for us to stand activation,” announced Cantrell on Thursday.

“The City of New Orleans is not only ready for game day today, but we’re ready to continue hosting large-scale events in our city because we are built to host.”

The FBI revealed on Thursday that so far no definitive link has been found between the New Orleans attack and a recent Tesla Cybertruck explosion in Las Vegas. At this point in the investigation, the FBI does not believe other suspects are involved in the New Orleans attack.

While the Sugar Bowl quickly took a backseat to the tragedy at hand, Georgia and Notre Dame are now preparing for a 4 pm ET kickoff in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals. In the meantime, thoughts and prayers still go out to New Orleans and all the families impacted by the senseless act of violence.
