LSU already has one star Johnson in the making in Baton Rouge with quarterback Max on the roster but there will soon be another as rising high school senior Jake Johnson is committed to playing for Ed Orgeron starting in 2022.

If you don’t follow recruiting, Jake is the nation’s No. 2 tight end prospect and a top 10 overall prospect from the state of Georgia according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.

While you may assume Jake picked LSU in order to play with his brother, that doesn’t appear to be the main reason for his pledge to the Tigers, according to his father.

In a recent interview with Mike Detillier of WWL Radio, Brad Johnson shared an interesting nugget when it comes to his son’s decision to commit to LSU this summer.

“He was at LSU’s camp just a couple weeks ago and he really, you know, he just loves to play, loves to be taught and coached,” Johnson said on the show. “And I think with Coach [Jake] Peetz coming in as the offensive coordinator, he had a big impact on Jake.

“Jake was not going to LSU, I’ll be honest with you, he was gone. And so with Peetz coming in there, that made a big impact on him as far as him fitting into that system and wanting to be a Tiger.”

LSU’s first-year offensive coordinator already has a well-respected reputation in coaching circles but it appears he also has a strong pedigree when it comes to recruiting elite talent to join Orgeron’s program based on these comments from the man known online as Big Bad Brad.
