Brent Venables describes what he’s looking for in Oklahoma’s next OC

Brent Venables and Oklahoma are in the business of looking for a new offensive coordinator after the Sooners fired Seth Littrell in the middle of the season.
He offered an update recently on what he’s looking for in the coach that will ultimately replace Littrell.
“Run, pass, efficiency, ball control and explosiveness,” Venables explained. “Quarterback friendly. … Systematically, something that you don’t have to have a generational five-star, best QB in the portal every year.”
The process has certainly been in the works and it seems reasonable that the team will be narrowing down on a candidate sooner rather than later.

“We’ve talked to several people, and so we feel like we’re in a good position where we need to be,” Venables said in a press conference earlier this month.
Oklahoma is not in a rush, though.
“Haven’t put a hard deadline on it, making that decision. Doing the process its due diligence. There’s a lot of layers to it, as you can imagine, and very sensitive to what we’re trying to do here to finish out the year, give ourselves a chance to win our last two regular-season games and continue to get better, and then, I’ve got to, there’s got to be a sense of urgency.”
Joe Jon Finley, formerly the team’s co-offensive-coordinator, will continue to serve as the co-offensive coordinator for the time being.
Oklahoma and LSU will round out the regular season when they face each other at 7 p.m. ET on Saturday in Tiger Stadium.
