Brent Venables gave a heartfelt and passionate speech to his players following No. 12 Oklahoma’s impressive 34-30 win over No. 3 Texas in the Red River rivalry game on Saturday.

“In all my years of coaching, I’ve never been a part of a game like that,” Venables said in the locker room after the game.

Venables told his players that “you decided how good you want to be.”

“The ups and downs, the highs and low, the adversity. The ‘you gotta make a play’ moments, the turnovers. The heart, the guts, the toughness. It was all there,” Venables said.

Venables spewed nothing but praise for the Sooners, who are now 6-0 on the season.

“You guys have worked so hard for such a long time,” Venables said. “We’re going to dominate this moment and be in this moment. The guts and heart you guys played with, you can’t fabricate that.”

Oklahoma led 20-17 at the half. The Sooners held on to their advantage against the Longhorns for most of the contest.

The Sooners enter a bye then host UFC on Oct. 21. Texas (5-1) heads into a bye week, then faces Houston on Oct. 21.
