Coming into the season, LSU head coach knew that his secondary was going to have some challenges.

While the talent is there, the secondary has very little experience being one of the younger groups on the team. Kelly addressed those challenges and how he thinks the secondary has developed so far through 2 games in his press conference Monday.

“We knew that we were playing new players back there,” Kelly said. “The challenges were going to be in developing players with very little experience, but with talent. But talent is only 1 part of the equation. It’s developing the consistency and doing the little things that require playing at a high level – tackling, leveraging the football, being in the right leverage, whether it’s inside leverage or outside leverage, raking through the basket when the ball’s in the air and getting it out, which we’ve done better in Week 2. I think all of those things are going to be a work in progress for us. We competed well for the ball in the air. I think what we’d like to see better is our technique to improve the fundamentals and probably the tackling.”

After giving up 45 points in Week 1 to Florida State, LSU’s defense was stronger in Week 2 and allowed just 10 points. The Tigers will get a test on Saturday as they take on Mississippi State on the road.

LSU and the Bulldogs will kickoff at noon ET on Saturday.
