Brian Kelly awards game ball for LSU’s bounce-back win over Vanderbilt

Brian Kelly and LSU got a much-needed win the almost looked like it was not going to come to pass with Saturday’s 24-17 victory over the visiting Vanderbilt Commodores. But Kelly, who has been on the hot seat and has come under plenty of fire lately, did not take credit himself for the victory.
He handed the game ball over to someone much more deserving, one could say. That player was LSU running back Josh Williams.
Beforehand, he did commend the coaching staff for their role, and the rest of the team for the way they executed the game plan.
“Nobody did a better job of making a statement, with his physicality and his relentlessness not to be taken down than (he did),” Kelly said. “You’ve got to have a message. And he sent the message out today. He will not be denied. Josh Williams, game ball.”
Here’s a look at that moment:

While LSU is firmly out of the College Football Playoff race, a team that truly died after the loss to Alabama just weeks ago, it is a good morale booster and should make Kelly feel (slightly) better to begin closing things out on a high note.
LSU faces Oklahoma in Tiger Stadium up next on the schedule, with kickoff set to 7 p.m. ET in Baton Rouge.
