LSU head coach Brian Kelly says one freshman in particular is already moving through the ranks.
The second-year head coach told reporters Tuesday that offensive lineman Lance Heard is getting reps with starters. Though Kelly didn’t say specifically that Heard is competing for a starting job, his quote implies he could be.
Brian Kelly says about Lance Heard, "we are certainly giving him reps (with the ones)."
Did not want to say completely he is pushing for starting job, but said it without saying it.

Heard is a physical specimen, standing at 6-foot-6 and 340 pounds. There’s no question that he has the size to be a starting offensive lineman in the SEC.
He comes to LSU ranked as a consensus 5-star prospect by recruiting services. He was also considered the No. 2 overall prospect in Louisiana and the No. 3 player in the nation at his position by 247Sports Composite rankings.
Heard could be a vital step in LSU’s hopeful return to glory. The Tigers showed improvement in the first year of the Brian Kelly era, winning 10 games a season ago.
LSU will begin in its campaign against Florida State, who it lost to a season ago. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. ET on Sept. 3.
