Brian Kelly offers hopeful prognosis for Grambling player hospitalized with head injury
Brian Kelly provided an update on Grambling redshirt sophomore Jaquavis Richmond, who suffered a head and neck injury against the Tigers on Saturday.
According to a video provided by LSUSports, Kelly said at a press conference on Monday that Richmond had successful surgery at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge.
“It was obviously a very difficult injury, but the surgery was successful,” Kelly said.
Grambling Athletics provided a statement from Dr. Trayvean D. Scott, vice president of intercollegiate athletics at Grambling. The post on social media confirmed Richmond’s successful surgery.
“The department of athletics would like to thank the GSU sports medicine staff, Ochsner LSU Health, GSU athletic and administrative staffs, GSU president Richard “Rick” Gallot, Jr., LSU president (William F. Tate IV), AD (Scott) Woodard, deputy AD (Verge) Ausberry, associate AD for sports medicine Micki Collins and their respective staffs for their assistance and response (on Saturday),” Scott said. “We want to thank the wonderful athletic trainers and medical staffs of both Grambling State, LSU and Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center for the extraordinary care and response to Jaquavis.”
Kelly said at Monday’s press conference that Richmond will have “a long and difficult recovery,” but added “we’re very hopeful.” Kelly added that the prognosis is Richmond will have “full movement” of his arms and legs.
“It’s a very difficult injury, but we’re hopeful he’ll have a successful outcome,” Kelly said.
