Ahead of LSU’s season opener against Florida State, Tigers’ head coach Brian Kelly had high praise for Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis.

He noted that he seen Travis, who had 260 yards and pair of touchdowns against LSU last year, 4 different times now, and that his competitive spirit is what sets him apart. He also praised Travis’ athletic ability and his skill for getting the ball downfield, however that might happen.

Here are Kelly’s full comments on Travis from the first SEC coaches teleconference:

“It’s well chronicled what he’s done, I’ve faced him let’s see this will be 4 times now. I know him quite well, first of all he’s a great competitor. We talk about skill set, we forget what a great competitor he is, he refuses to lose. He’s always going to be in the mix regardless of the situation. He competes every single snap, I love that about him, his makeup. The other thing is his ability to push the ball down the field, he throws a great long ball and with the receiver that he has, it’s a great fit. The ability to push the ball and throw the ball down the field makes him a great fit for the offense that they run. His ability to extend plays, his athleticism, you look at the run last year against Florida, they’ve got him in the backfield and to escape and extend the play. All of those things together make him the kind of player he is, and he’s a winner, I think that to me tops it all off, his competitiveness and that he’s a winner.”

LSU certainly has its hands full against Travis and the Seminoles, and the Tigers will be looking for a revenge win on Sunday.
