Brian Kelly doesn’t want to hear about Garrett Nussmeier’s childhood Alabama memory.

After all, the Crimson Tide are the Tigers’ arch rival, and they just so happen to be LSU’s next opponent on the schedule who could also very well determine if LSU is able to get into the CFP at all.

Nussmeier’s father, Doug Nussmeier, served as the Alabama offensive coordinator between 2012 and 2013, and his son was on the sideline when that Crimson Tide team faced Notre Dame while Brian Kelly was coaching for the Fighting Irish. A lot has changed since then.

The BCS national championship game is a warm memory for Nussmeier, but an ugly one for Kelly, considering the Fighting Irish lost to Alabama, 42-14.

“Yeah, he’s brought it up,” Kelly said on Wednesday during the SEC coaches weekly teleconference. “And I told him to shut up, and not to bring it up again. Because the next time, we’re going to be on the field together, we’re going to be holding it together.”

It’s easy to see why Kelly doesn’t want to reflect on that one, and it’s also easy to see just how small of a world college football truly is despite how vast and ever-changing the landscape is.

It will be interesting to see if LSU can come out on the right side of this one against the Crimson Tide when the two teams go head-to-head in Tiger Stadium on Saturday.
