Brian Kelly and LSU took care of business on Saturday, defeating Mississippi State, 41-14. The Tigers were in control from the very beginning, out-gaining the Bulldogs 310-79 in the first half as they led, 24-7.
Jayden Daniels was 30-of-34 for 361 yards and 2 touchdowns, while receiver Malik Nabers had a historic day with 13 catches, 239 yards and 2 touchdowns.
As good as the offense was, the defense was equally as impressive. They completely shut down Will Rogers, holding him to just 11-of-28 passing, for 103 yards. Jo’Quavious Marks had 8 carries for 75 yards, but he gained 52 of those yards on a big run when the score was already 24-0.
Since losing the opener to Florida State, LSU has responded by outscoring their opponents 113-24. Daniels has been nearly perfect in those games, completing 48-of-58 passes for 630 yards and 7 touchdowns.
Kelly talked to media after the game, and liked how his team was able to make play on adjustments to what Mississippi State was giving them. He also loved his defense’s mentality, and said this game was for Greg Brooks, who missed the game due to a medical emergency.
. @LSUfootball Brian Kelly says the hitch routes became go routes today because Mississippi State’s defense challenged #LSU to throw deep. Jayden Daniels and Malik Nabers were certainly up for the task. pic.twitter.com/TCePSDvcRY
