Brian Kelly reveals Week 1 injury scratches, explains absence of RB John Emery Jr.
Ahead of LSU’s season opener against Florida State, head coach Brian Kelly gave an update on who will, and won’t play against the Seminoles on Sunday night.
The Tigers will be without running back Armoni Goodwin for the season opener, per Kelly. Goodwin has dealt with injuries throughout the course of the 2022 season and missed all of the spring practice.
Running back Josh Williams, who has been dealing with a fractured left leg, is probable for the matchup, as well as offensive lineman Kimo Makane’ole.
After it was announced that running back John Emery Jr. would be “unavailable” for the Tigers’ season opener, Kelly commented on his status heading into the season.
“John is in good standing with the program,” Kelly said. “He’s done everything that we’ve asked him to do. Any other comments would put me in conflict with the Buckley Amendment.”
Kelly could not go into details as to why Emery is unavailable, starting it would conflict with the Buckley Amendment, which protects students’ rights as it pertains to academic records.
Emery was not a projected starter, but would likely get a significant number of snaps if he was available.
The Tigers and Seminoles kickoff at 7:30 p.m. ET Sunday night.
