Brian Kelly speaks to national championship level play in SEC Championship Game
Brian Kelly believes the SEC Championship as a national championship feel to it.
Kelly was apart of the game his first season at LSU. While Georgia cruised in the game, Kelly still believes the stage feels as big as it would at the national championship level.
“I think it’s a great environment, I think it rivals any kind of big game environment that I’ve been in,” Kelly said. “Certainly, when you have a stage as great as playing in Atlanta, that SEC Championship Game and the way it’s staged, it feels like a championship game. It feels different than a regular season game, and so I think that that’s what that platform’s for, it’s to put the 2 best in the SEC in a championship format. So hat’s off to everybody that puts that together and really places the 2 best teams in a position to play for a national championship and you feel it there.”
Alabama and Georgia are set to face off in the SEC Championship this weekend. A win for Georgia likely means a spot in the CFP, but Alabama is also gunning for a big win to increase its chances of getting there too. Regardless of the outcome, Kelly believes that either team is capable of winning the national championship.
“And certainly Georgia and Alabama have earned their way into it,” Kelly said. “And whoever the winner of that game is, is certainly poised to be a national championship and I’m not sure the runner up can’t win the national championship either.”
