Brian Maurer reportedly absent from Tennessee practice again; still on Vols’ roster
The curious case of what’s happening with Tennessee quarterback Brian Maurer will continue at least another day.
According to Jimmy Hyams of SportsRadioWNML.com, the redshirt sophomore was not at practice again on Monday, marking the fifth consecutive practice he has missed.
Still, to this point, Maurer has not been removed from the Volunteers roster nor has he entered the NCAA’s transfer portal in search of a new home.
Tennessee QB Brian Maurer was not at practice again Monday. That's 5 practices he has missed in a row. But he is not officially off the team.

Maurer started camp as 1 of 4 quarterbacks seeking the starting nod in 2021 but things soured quickly and speculation of a rift between Maurer and the new Tennessee staff was fueled by an Instagram post made by Maurer over the weekend.
According to RockyTopInsider, Maurer, before later editing his post, said, “They took my dream after 4 days … That’s okay cause I’m a soldier. #18out.”
Maurer, a 6-3, 200-pounder from Ocala, Florida, has played in 12 career games at Tennessee. He is 37-for-81 passing for 550 yards and 2 touchdowns.
The Volunteers open their 2021 season on Thursday, Sept. 2, at home against Bowling Green.
Correction: Maurer’s career numbers have been corrected after the wrong stats were cited on publication.
