Brock Vandagriff is not returning to play for Kentucky nor is he entering the transfer portal. Instead, according to Jon Hale of the Lexington Herald-Leader, Vandagriff is set to retire from the game of football.

Vandagriff is a former 5-star recruit out of Bogart, Georgia who originally signed with Kirby Smart and his home-state Georgia. He redshirted during the 2021 season and appeared in just three games in 2022, although he was a member of two national title-winning teams in those years.

Vandagriff then saw minimal action during the 2023 campaign when the door appeared to be open for him to compete for the starting QB job following the departure of Stetson Bennett. But while throwing for 165 yards and a pair of scores in 8 appearances, Vandagriff was pushed down the depth chart.

Thus, he opted to enter the transfer portal and found a home in Lexington, looking to take over for the departed Devin Leary, another transfer QB Mark Stoops & Co. had brought in. While there were plenty of reasons that Vandagriff and the Kentucky offense struggled this past year, the QB did have some rough moments.

Vandagriff completed 3-of-10 passes and threw an INT in an early-season loss to South Carolina, and he again completed less than 50% of his passes and tossed 2 interceptions in a road loss to Florida later in the season. Overall, the graduate student threw for 1,593 yards, 10 touchdowns and 8 interceptions this year, completing 57% of his passes.
