Brooke Wilmes went 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI, run scored and 2 doubles as Missouri knocked off Missouri State, 3-1, on Friday afternoon in an opening game of the NCAA Regional.
Kimberly Wert and Hatti Moore each chipped in 2 more hits for Mizzou, as the Tigers also got a solid performance in the circle from Laurin Krings. Krings went 7 innings and allowed just 6 hits and registered 12 strikeouts with just 1 walk.
It was the ninth straight win over Missouri State for the Tigers although the 2 teams have not met since 2015. The Bears came into the postseason as champions of the Missouri Valley Conference for the first time in 11 years.
The win continued solid play from Mizzou which carried over from the SEC Tournament when Mizzou reached the SEC Tournament Final for the second time in program history.
Jordan Weber and Krings combined to shut out Auburn, Alabama and Tennessee en route to the title game. Jenna Laird batted .462 over the 4 games with 3 multi-hit efforts, including an RBI double for the only run of the game against Auburn.
