Bryce Young trade between Bears and Panthers finally complete after Luther Burden III pick
Bryce Young going to Carolina instead of Chicago was a big deal, literally, 2 years at ago at the draft, and that trade was finally put to rest 2 drafts later on Friday night.
The Bears held the No. 1 pick in 2023 and could’ve selected Young out of Alabama, but they went in a different direction and ended up making Caleb Williams their franchise quarterback a year later. So, instead of the Windy City, Young was headed back to the South to play for the Panthers, who selected Young with that top overall pick.
Young has struggled through his first 2 seasons but is still in Carolina trying to prove that he was worthy of that No. 1 overall pick. And on Friday night, at long last, the Bears and Panthers put the Young trade to bed after former Missouri wide receiver Luther Burden III was picked by Chicago in the second round with the 39th overall pick.
Confused? Well, here are the final specifics of a trade that literally took 2 years to complete:
The Panthers didn’t receive anything other than that No. 1 overall pick in 2023 that they turned into Young.
The Bears added Burden to a haul that also included: wide receiver DJ Moore, offensive tackle Darnell Wright (a first-round pick in 2023), cornerback Tyrique Stevenson (a second-round pick in 2023), and Williams, who was the No. 1 overall pick in 2024.
Sometimes, trades are done in one flash, on 1 night. Other times, they take time to complete. This was one of those times, to a ridiculous extent, but the Bears and Panthers finally have their players going forward and can go their separate ways.
