Former Georgia QB Jake Fromm has been ordered away from his Buffalo Bills teammates, but it’s not because he has COVID-19. Buffalo has isolated Fromm as the team’s emergency quarterback, it was reported Wednesday.

According to Matthew Fairburn of The Athletic, Fromm will “periodically” practice away from his teammates so Buffalo has an emergency quarterback in case of a coronavirus outbreak in the team’s QB room. It appears that right now is one of those periods, as the Bills include Fromm on the “injury report” with “not injury” listed under injury.

The Philadelphia Eagles made news for taking a similar approach, signing veteran quarterback Josh McCown to the practice squad with the plan for McCown to stay in Texas unless needed in an emergency situation.

Buffalo selected Fromm No. 167 overall in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Fromm is the Bills’ third-string quarterback behind starter Josh Allen and backup Matt Barkley.
