Bump in the road? Mac Jones says it was ‘harder’ to get in game flow on Thursday
Patriots QB Mac Jones has been taking some more reps during training camp the past few days with Cam Newton having to sit out due a miscommunication with the NFL’s COVID protocols.
Reports out of practice have been good so far. Media members covering the Patriots praised Jones for the practices he’s had in the last couple of days.
However, Jones stated that Thursday was a little harder with trying to read the defense:
Mac Jones: “Yesterday I got a lot of reps and it was great. We communicated and I felt like we were in a really good flow. I kind of got into a game flow. Today, it was a little bit harder to just get into that. … They made some good adjustments with their safeties.” pic.twitter.com/Od9IGE3bFI

Thursday, Cam Newton returned to practice with the team, taking a limited role while Jones was still getting the majority of reps during the joint practice with the New York Giants.
It still looks like Mac Jones will be starting quarterback heading into the game against the Giants this Sunday, as Cam has some ground to make up after missing time. But, Jones will need to get better at reading defenses, as NFL teams are quick to adjust.
