Butch Jones confirms indefinite suspension of Tennessee DE Darrell Taylor
Tennessee Volunteers coach Butch Jones confirmed in his Monday press conference that he suspended defensive end Darrell Taylor indefinitely.
Jones said there’s no timetable on Taylor’s return, and that he’ll have certain stipulations and requirements to meet.
Taylor and offensive lineman Trey Smith got into an altercation at practice last Thursday, with Taylor kicking Smith in the face. Smith needed stitches after the scuffle.
A redshirt sophomore, Taylor isn’t a stranger to discipline. In the Vols loss to Georgia on Sept. 30, Taylor got ejected for fighting.
Taylor has 20 tackles and one sack this season, including a career-high 12 tackles in Tennessee’s season-opening win over Georgia Tech on Sept. 4.
The Vols (3-2) are coming off their bye week and face South Carolina (4-2) at home on Saturday at noon.
