Buzz Williams dons shirt in support of ‘Rally for Rhyan’ following win at Mizzou
Buzz Williams is as intense a coach as there is in college basketball, often losing his voice through the years after games, whether his team won or lost.
But on Saturday, it was a unique opportunity for the veteran head coach to throw his support behind the other team’s cause. Williams’ team won the game, with No. 10 Texas A&M getting a late 3-pointer from Wade Taylor IV in a thrilling 67-64 victory at No. 15 Mizzou. That was wonderful for Williams, as his Aggies kept rolling in the rugged SEC.
Then, in the postgame press conference, Williams showed the importance of rallying behind a cause that was started by the program he just defeated. Williams wore a “Rally for Rhyan” shirt while he spoke to reporters. Saturday’s contest marked the 10th annual “Rally for Rhyan” game, which is an event where the Tigers raise money and awareness for pediatric cancer research.
The event began in 2016 when Missouri senior associate athletic director and former assistant basketball coach Brad Loos’ daughter, Rhyan, was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma. Since she completed her treatment, Rhyan has been cancer-free for more than 8 years. The Rally for Rhyan organization has raised more than $800,000 for pediatric cancer research studies.

There was also a press conference for the game on Friday, where this year’s Tigers team emphasized how important the annual game is to the Missouri community.
