Buzz Williams is a possible candidate at Oklahoma this offseason, should the Sooners’ job open up following the 2024-25 campaign.
That’s according to ESPN’s Jeff Borzello, who published a wide-ranging coaching carousel preview this week. After 6 years in College Station, Williams could be looking for a fresh start, per Borzello:
Never one to stay at the same school for very long, Williams has the Aggies headed for their third straight NCAA tournament — and has his best team since arriving in College Station six years ago. He’s likely further down the list at Indiana, but could find himself in the mix for Oklahoma should it open.
Williams is in his 6th season at Texas A&M. He’s had plenty of success in College Station but Williams has never stayed at a program longer than 6 years before. As a head coach, he was previously at Marquette for 6 years and Virginia Tech for 5 years.
Williams does also have some connection to Oklahoma. He’s an alum of Oklahoma City University, which is less than a 40-minute drive away from Norman. Much of his career has also been spent in the state of Texas, where the Sooners historically have spent a lot of time on the recruiting trail.
As for Oklahoma, it’s unclear if the Sooners will be looking for a new coach or not this offseason. Porter Moser is in Year 4 and has yet to make the NCAA Tournament with the Sooners, but he once again has them on the bubble entering late February.
