Cade Belyeu blasts Auburn’s first HR of 2025 hours after losing mother to cancer

Cade Belyeu was playing with a heavy heart on Friday as Auburn opened the baseball season vs. Holy Cross.
Ahead of the first pitch, the Tigers held a moment of silence for Cade’s mother, Staci. The program announced that Staci passed away Friday morning after battling cancer, but Cade was still in the lineup and batting 6th.
Belyeu led off the 2nd inning for his first at-bat of the season, and he singled and stole in his first trip to the plate. He would come around to score Auburn’s first run of the season on an RBI double from Eric Snow, but that was just the tip of the iceberg.
Cade led off the bottom of the 6th inning with Auburn clinging to a 2-1 lead, and he unloaded with a magical swing. He blasted a majestic solo home run just to the right of dead center field, and his smile rounding the bases says it all.
As Brad Pitt’s character says in Moneyball, how can you not be romantic about baseball?
Belyeu is undoubtedly playing with a heavy heart, but there’s no denying that kind of moment speaks volumes. Hopefully, it affords Cade and the entire Belyeu family a moment of joy as they continue to grieve the loss of Staci.
