Obviously, this is absolutely massive news for the Gators. Banks provides consistency along the interior of the defensive line, and he’s been one of Florida’s better defenders since transferring – especially this past season.
In 2024 Banks totaled 21 tackles with 1 pass deflection, 1 forced fumble, 7.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. Banks started in 10 of his 12 appearances this season and appeared in all 12 games last season.
Banks’ best game of the season came against Ole Miss, where he picked up 2.5 of his 4.5 sacks on the year. He also had 4 tackles and a pass deflection against the Rebels, helping the Gators pull out a 24-17 upset.
Just like Banks, Florida has so much momentum heading into the 2025 season under Billy Napier. The Gators withstood one of the toughest schedules in college football, finishing 7-5 with all but one of their losses coming to top 20 teams. The other loss, of course, was to 8-4 Texas A&M.
Florida will face off against Tulane in the Gasparilla bowl, a decent matchup against a program that contended for the G5 representation in the College Football Playoff.
