Cam Newton’s season is over: Has Cam played his last game for the Carolina Panthers?

Cam Newton’s season is over.
The Panthers put the former Auburn star, Heisman Trophy winner and former NFL MVP on injured reserve on Tuesday. Newton has been out with a mid-foot sprain since Week 2. He originally suffered the injury in a preseason game on Aug. 22 against the New England Patriots.
In the two games he played to start the season, Newton threw for 572 yards but no touchdowns with one interception. Kyle Allen, who was signed by the Panthers as an undrafted free agent before last season, has filled in, throwing for 1,059 yards, seven touchdowns and three interceptions in five games, helping the NFC South team win five of their last six games.
On Nov. 1, Panthers general manager Marty Hurney discussed Newton’s attempt at coming back from the injury.
“I spent a long time speaking with Cam this week,” Hurney said, “and he’s done everything he possibly can in his rehab process to get his foot to 100 percent. Unfortunately, we haven’t reached that point. The next step is for him to go see Dr. Anderson and gather more information.”
Newton has one season remaining on his Carolina contract but if the Panthers waive the quarterback, they will save over $19 million on next season’s salary cap.
