Cam Ward will not throw during the NFL Scouting Combine this weekend in Indianapolis, according to a report.
That’s per ESPN’s Laura Rutledge, who cites a conversation with Ward on Friday morning. Ward will instead allow his tape at Miami to “speak for itself” and added that he does plan to throw at his pro day later this spring.
Ward is currently the betting favorite to be the No. 1 overall pick, albeit a narrow one. BetMGM lists Ward at -150 to be selected 1st overall. The Tennessee Titans, who do not currently have a franchise quarterback on their roster, own that pick. Ward’s decision to sit out of throwing drills could indicate that he feels good about where he stands with the Titans.
Regardless of who ends up going No. 1 overall, Ward’s decision to skip throwing drills at the combine will open up opportunity for players like Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart, Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders and more. Dart, in-particular, could benefit as he’s emerging as a potential 1st-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft ahead of the combine.
Ward spent 1 season at Miami before turning pro, but he was extremely productive during that lone campaign. He threw for 4,313 yards and 39 touchdowns while leading Miami to one of the nation’s most-efficient offenses in the country during the 2024 season. Ward was also a Heisman Trophy finalist.
Quarterbacks are scheduled to have their on-field workouts at the NFL Combine on Saturday.
