Carolina Panthers reportedly shutting down Cam Newton for final 2 games of season
Now that the Carolina Panthers can’t make the playoffs, Cam Newton’s season is done.
Carolina plans to sit the former Auburn quarterback for the rest of the season, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Newton had been battling a shoulder injury the last few weeks as the Panthers made a last-ditch push for the playoffs.
Sources: #Panthers are expected to sit Cam Newton (shoulder) now that they are out of the playoff race and Taylor Heinicke is believed to be starting Sunday vs. the #Falcons. A move that makes a lot of sense. … Cam is not practicing today.

Newton threw for 3,395 yards, 24 touchdowns and 13 interceptions this season while completing 67.9 percent of his passes, the best rate of his professional career by far. The former Heisman Trophy winner and NFL MVP also rushed 101 times for 488 yards and four more touchdowns.
Carolina began the season 6-2 and looking like a Super Bowl contender before a string of six straight losses turned its 2018 campaign upside-down. The Panthers were officially eliminated from the playoffs with their 12-9 loss to the New Orleans Saints on Monday night.
