Carolina Panthers sign former LSU standout and controversial safety Eric Reid
On Thursday, the Carolina Panthers announced that they had signed former LSU safety Eric Reid.
Reid played the last five seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, racking up 264 tackles and 10 interceptions.
Many are surprised to see Reid be signed due to his political activism, as he was the first NFL player to follow Colin Kaepernick in the National Anthem protests.
In October 2017, Reid filed an official grievance letter with the NFL that alleged team owners and the NFL colluded to prevent his employment because he took part in the protests.
Reid was drafted No. 18 overall in the 2013 NFL Draft and was selected to the Pro Bowl in his rookie season.
In three seasons at LSU, Reid recorded 199 total tackles and six interceptions.
When he signed with the Panthers on Thursday, Reid even sported his “DBU” shirt:
And there it is, a sight many suspected we would not see this season, Eric Reid signing on the dotted line. https://t.co/2ldsF1C9jH
