The SEC has released its players of the week after a busy Week 1 slate.
There were numerous performances to reward, particularly on the offensive side of the ball with so many SEC teams putting up big numbers in Week 1.
Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia and Georgia quarterback Carson Beck split co-offensive player of the week honors. Pavia led Vanderbilt to a massive upset over Virginia Tech in Week 1 while Beck directed the Bulldogs to a 34-3 win over Clemson on Saturday in Atlanta.
Alabama’s Keon Sabb earned defensive player of the week honors for his efforts against Western Kentucky. Sabb recorded a couple of tackles and 2 interceptions in Alabama’s win over the Hilltoppers.
Georgia’s Peyton Woodring and Oklahoma’s Tyler Keltner shared the special teams player of the week nod. Woodring made all of his kicks against Clemson, including a career-high 55-yarder. Keltner was making his OU debut on Saturday and went 3-for-3 on field goals. His first kick of the game was a 50-yarder and he later followed it up with field goals from 42 yards and 24 yards out.
Texas’ Cameron Williams and Arkansas’ Fernando Carmona Jr. were named co-offensive linemen of the week. South Carolina’s Kyle Kennard and Dylan Stewart shared the league’s award for defensive lineman of the week.
Freshman of the week was another very competitive category this week. In Week 1, that honor was split by Tennessee’s Nico Iamaleava and Alabama’s Ryan Williams.
