Carson Beck will earn $4 million from Miami for his lone season in Coral Gables, according to WSVN 7News in Miami (h/t to the Herald’s Barry Jackson).

The former Georgia quarterback announced on Friday, just 1 day after entering the transfer portal, that he intends to transfer to Miami and join Mario Cristobal’s Hurricanes. It’s an obvious move for Miami, who tried and whiffed on several other transfer quarterbacks earlier in the cycle.

Miami is hoping it can strike gold a second time after Cam Ward landed in New York City as a Heisman Trophy finalist in his first and only season with the program.

Georgia insider Radi Nabulsi reported that Beck earned the same amount he’s getting from Miami — $4 million — this past season with Georgia. While the money might not be different, the situation certainly is. Beck and Georgia didn’t have the best breakup, according to reports, and it seemed the Bulldogs were ready to move on to the next era. With The U, Beck shouldn’t have much competition for the starting job.

Other schools tried to get in the proverbial ring for Beck, but it always seemed like Miami was the likely landing spot. The Hurricanes have a personal connection for Beck away from the field, and they were the program that was almost immediately linked to him once reports surfaced of his portal entry.

The price tag is double what ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported the market would be for Beck on Thursday. But that doesn’t seem like much of a shock. Beck was the top-rated transfer for the entire winter cycle, per 247Sports, and Thamel reported that average power-conference quarterbacks were approaching 7-figure valuations in the portal.

“Your high, high-end guys, I’ve heard numbers eclipsing $3 million this year in this market,” Thamel said on Thursday’s Pat McAfee Show. “We’re at a confluence in the market path where the places that had large NIL stashes, now basically these guys can double-dip. You can unload all the NIL money you have because you have rev-share money coming. … Right now, it’s almost like the market is flooded and guys are getting overpaid.”

Beck finished the 2024 season with 3,485 passing yards, 28 touchdowns, and 12 picks while completing 64.7% of his passes. For his career, he has 7,912 yards and 58 touchdowns against 20 interceptions. As Georgia’s starting quarterback, Beck helped the Bulldogs to a 24-3 record.
