CFB analyst discusses Stetson Bennett’s shoulder injury ahead of bout against Vanderbilt
SEC contributor and DawgNation’s Mike Griffith didn’t hold back on Stetson Bennett.
Griffth joined the guys on “3 Man Front” on WJOX to discuss Bennett’s recent struggles throwing the deep ball and his shoulder injury, as the Georgia quarterback tries to keep the top-ranked Bulldogs undefeated on Saturday at home against Vanderbilt.

“We’re in the road-rage stage of the college football season, where some fans are going off the deep end,” said Griffith. “I try to be a weatherman and tell the temperature, what it really is.”
On the surface, the numbers look just fine. The Bulldogs are No. 1 in the nation, they are 6-0, and they will probably be 7-0 after Saturday’s game against the Commodores. But looking deeper at Bennett’s stats, you see that he’s only thrown 5 touchdown passes in 6 games, and his 150.3 passer rating is far below the 176.7 clip he had last season in leading Georgia to a national championship.
Bennett only threw for 208 yards last Saturday against Auburn, not exactly an eye-popping number. Maybe Bennett’s shoulder injury is bothering him more than he’s letting on?
“Stetson’s not throwing the ball well deep this year, it’s documented,” said Griffith about Bennett, who’s only averaging 8.8 yards per pass attempt over the 1st half of the season.
So far, Bennett has been good enough to keep the Bulldogs on track for another trip to Atlanta. But the road is about to get a lot tougher in a few weeks, starting with the annual showdown with Florida in Jacksonville on Oct. 29. After that, there are games against Tennessee, Mississippi State and Kentucky.
