One of the biggest storylines of Thursday was the official announcement of the change of the College Football Playoff to a 12-team format beginning in 2024.
With the news of expansion, one of the biggest questions that has been raised is as to whether or not or not the start of the regular season will be moved to an earlier date. CFP Executive Director Bill Hancock was asked about that this week.
“No one is very far down the road on that but I know the conversations will continue,” Hancock responded.

That means the teams seeded Nos. 1-4 who get byes in the first round will not have the chance to host a home playoff game. The national title game for 2024 is set for January 20, 2025 and the quarterfinals will be played in the vicinity of New Year’s Day.
