Chad Morris has decided to step down from his role at Texas State.

Morris, who served as the head coach at Arkansas from 2018-19, served as the Texas State wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator during the 2024 season. He announced his decision to step down in a social media post on Thursday night.

Morris said he plans to watch his son, Chandler, play his final season of college football in 2025 before returning to the sidelines at some point in the future.

“Coaching is a passion that I have enjoyed for 32 years,” Morris wrote. “This year, Paula and I are going to enjoy watching Chandler play his final year of college football. I look forward to many more years on the sidelines, but for this upcoming season, I am going to enjoy being in the stands.”

Chandler Morris has had a whirlwind college career, but is set to finish out his tenure as a college football player at Virginia. He spent the 2024 campaign at North Texas and previously played for TCU and Oklahoma.

As for Chad Morris, he’s also bounced around in recent years. He’s had 6 different jobs over the past 6 years: Arkansas head coach in 2019, Auburn offensive coordinator in 2020, Allen High School head coach in 2021, South Florida analyst in 2022, Clemson analyst in 2023 and Texas State wide receivers coach in 2024. He’ll now take a well-earned off year in 2025 before deciding the next steps of his coaching career.
