Chicago Bears GM shares latest on relationship with former Georgia LB Roquan Smith
The road to the NFL hasn’t been a smooth one for former Georgia LB Roquan Smith. After publicly requesting a trade, Smith then sat out much of the Bears’ spring practice. After the Bears refused to allow a move, Smith rejoined the team.
According to GM Ryan Poles, the Bears are “working on their relationship” with the former Bulldog:
“First of all, he’s a good player — that’s never changed,” Poles said. “And he’s a good dude. I have faith that he’s gonna have a good year, and we’ll work on our relationship and all that.”
Poles also expressed his desire to keep Smith, saying “at the end of the day we have to do what’s best for this organization, but my intention is to make sure Roquan Smith is on this team.”
Smith isn’t letting the past impact his level of play this season:
“I’m not focused on that, if I’m being completely honest,” Smith said. “My focus is on making this year the best year I can and then go from there. I don’t want to look forward too much to the future or anything like that. I’m just focused on now, having the best year I can with my teammates and playing the game I love. That’s what means the most to me.”
